چکیده

Abstract Operational data over 2 years from three large Austrian wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) with design capacities of 4 million, 950,000 and 110,000 population equivalent (PE) were examined. Salt peaks, due to thawing road salt detected quantified by electrical conductivity, temperature chloride measurement in the inflow WWTPs. Daily NaCl loads up 1,147 t/d PE-specific 0.26–0.5 kg NaCl/(PE · y) found. To mimic plants' behaviour a controlled environment, was dosed into laboratory-scale activated sludge plant. The influence peaks on important parameters such as volume index, settling velocity floc size investigated. Influent effluent sampled extensively calculate removal rates. Respiration measurements performed quantify activity. Particle distributions sizes measured using laser diffraction particle sizing showed decrease approximately two-thirds. structure examined documented light microscopy. At concentrations below 1 g/L, increased respiration found for autotrophic biomass, between 3 g NaCl/L inhibited 30%.

Effect of Concentration of Cations on Activated Sludge Properties and Membrane Fouling in Membrane Bioreactors for Wastewater Treatment

This paper presents the results of an investigation on the effects of concentration of cations on activated sludge properties and membrane fouling in submerge membrane bioreactors. The working volume of the experimental setup was two liters. The cellulose acetate membrane was immersed in the bioreactor. The flocculability, settling properties and fouling propensity of activated sludge was measu...

Performance Evaluation of the Extended Aeration Activated Sludge System in the Removal of Physicochemical and Microbial Parameters of Municipal Wastewater: A Case Study of Nowshahr Wastewater Treatment Plant

Introduction: Extended aeration activated sludge system has a lower sludge production than other activated sludge processes. Due to its high hydraulic retention time (HRT), the tolerance of this process is higher than the shocks caused by increased organic loading rate. The main objective of this study is to evaluate the performance of the aeration system in removing physicochemical and mi...
